The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Saturday (April 26), arrested Engineer-in-Chief of the Irrigation and CAD Department at Gajwel Bhookya Hari Ram, after uncovering assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest follows raids conducted at his residence and 13 other locations linked to him and his family that led to seizure of a catalogue of properties and luxury items. Among the assets discovered were luxury villas at Shaikpet and Kondapur, flats in Srinagar Colony, Madhapur and Narsingi, commercial property in Amaravathi, open plots at Qutubullapur and Miryalaguda, and a building currently under construction in Kothagudem.
Further searches revealed a six-acre farmhouse with a mango orchard at Bommalramaram, 28 acres of agricultural land in Markook, 20 guntas in Patancheru, two independent houses at Srinagar Colony, luxury vehicles, gold ornaments, and substantial bank deposits. ACB said that the real market value of the assets could far exceed their official estimates.
Hari Ram was taken into custody and has been remanded to judicial custody. This comes shortly after the release of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) report that exposed serious flaws in the project’s design, construction and maintenance.
