Highways Dept. will prepare estimates to four-lane Gobi-Dharapuram, Perumanallur-Kunnathur stretches within this financial year, says Minister


The Highways Department would prepare estimates to lay four-lane highway between Gobichettipalayam and Dharapuram and Perumanallur and Kunnathur, Minister for Highways and Public Works E.V. Velu said in the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a query by AIADMK legislator K.A. Sengottaiyan, Mr. Velu said that the traffic intensity was among the factors considered to decide on laying four-lane highway. Mr. Velu said that engineers would be consulted on the traffic intensity and estimates would be made for these two stretches during this financial year.

During his speech, Mr. Sengottaiyan said there was traffic congestion and several accidents reported on the road between Gobi and Dharapuram and inspections were on to expand it into a four-lane.

Likewise, inspections were held for a four-lane between Perumanallur and Kunnathur. The former Minister further sought to government to speed up steps to convert them into four- lanes.
