Huge explosion at China chemical plant kills at least five


A huge explosion rocked a chemical plant in China’s eastern Shandong province on Tuesday at about noon, killing at least five people and injuring 19 others, according to Chinese state media. Six others are said to be missing.

Footage circulating online shows thick columns of black smoke rising from the site.

More than 200 emergency workers were dispatched to Shandong Youdao Chemical factory, which according to its website develops, produces and sells pesticides and pharmaceuticals and chemical intermediates.
