Hyderabad city police have denied permission to the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) for its proposed “Telangana March” at Tank Bund, originally planned for Saturday, April 26. The protest was aimed at demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Act.
According to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), the decision was taken due to anticipated traffic disruptions in central parts of the city. Police also cited a lack of clarity from organisers on the estimated turnout, which added to concerns about crowd control.
“We anticipated a much larger gathering than what was conveyed. We didn’t want the situation to spiral beyond control,” said a source from city police. The march had received support from multiple organisations aligned with the JAC’s cause.
