IIT-Madras start-up Plugzmart’s EV fast charger gets ARAI certification

IIT Madras-incubated smart EV charger start-up Plugzmart has obtained ARAI certification for its electric vehicle charger for heavy vehicles.

While several start-ups have got their EV chargers certified by ARAI, Plugzmart says it is the first to get its EV charger certified with its own controller modules and PLC module, instead of importing them. The entire hardware and software of this 240kW DC fast charger was developed in-house, reducing reliance on imported components and promoting ‘Make in India’ for the EV sector, the start-up said in a statement. The charger can charge high-end cars and heavy vehicles in just 20 minutes, it claimed.

High power charging

Plugzmart’s charger is designed for high-power EV charging, catering to high-end four-wheelers, commercial fleets and highway corridors. It ensures high efficiency, reliability and adherence to Indian and international safety standards. A smart power distribution system optimises energy usage and prevents grid overload.

The country is moving towards high-power DC fast chargers, with a focus on locally manufactured solutions to reduce dependency on imports and lower costs. Our indigenous controller and PLC modules can play a key role in the country reducing its imports in the EV sSector,” Vivek Samynathan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Plugzmart, said.
