Following a series of legal measures, in a latest development, IPS officer Seemanth Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, replacing B Dayananda.

He will now serve as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Commissioner. Until now, he was serving as the ADGP with the Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force.

The other officers who have been suspended include Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash (in charge of cricket stadium security), DCP (Central) Shekhar Tekkanavar, ACP of Cubbon Park Division Bala Krishna, and Inspector of Cubbon Park Police Station Girish.

Additionally, RCB’s Marketing Head, Nikhil Sosale, was arrested at the Bengaluru airport in connection with the stampede case. The incident, which claimed 11 lives and left over 50 people injured, reportedly involved multiple administrative lapses.

The event was marred by lapses at multiple levels. According to proceedings of Karnataka government, the CEO of RCB had informed the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner’s office on June 3, 2025, about plans to hold a victory parade and celebrations on June 4, 2025. However, the Commissioner’s office failed to issue a written response denying permission, citing insufficient time to prepare for an event of such scale.

Despite the absence of formal permission, RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association proceeded to promote the celebrations on social media, inviting fans to the Chinnaswamy Stadium without following standard protocols such as issuing tickets or entry passes.

Although the police were aware of the likelihood of a large turnout, adequate crowd control measures were not implemented. Consequently, several police officials have been suspended.

The Karnataka High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Bengaluru stampede. The court has issued a notice to the Karnataka Government, seeking details on the cause of the tragedy and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Further, the Karnataka Government has informed the High Court that the investigation against the three organisations involved has been handed over to the CID.
