Kallakurichi police rule out foul play in accident involving Madurai Adheenam’s vehicle, warn action against those spreading false information


The Kallakurichi district police have ruled out any foul play in a road accident involving the vehicle of the Madurai Adheenam near Ulundurpet in the district on May 2, 2025. The police warned of strict action against those who post false information and spread rumours on social media regarding the accident.

Police said following information that the SUV in which the Adheenam was travelling to Chennai met with an accident with another car at the Salem roundabout near Ulundurpet, a police team rushed to the spot for investigation. However, both the vehicles had left the area before the police arrived.

The police perused the CCTV footage in the area and found that the SUV in which the Adheenam was travelling to Chennai had taken the service road in Ajees Nagar in Ulundurpet instead of the flyover. The SUV which was proceeding towards Ulundurpet at high speed when it brushed against a car that was passing through a barricade on the stretch.

“The accident occurred at around 9.45 a.m. and both the vehicles suffered minor damages. Following this, an argument broke out between the occupants of both the vehicles and they left the spot,” the police said.

Meanwhile, news has been doing the rounds on social media that an attempt was made on the Adheenam’s life. The Adheenam himself had alleged an attempt was made on his life.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed no such incident occurred. The accident occurred owing to gross negligence on the part of the driver of the Adheenam’s vehicle who was driving at a high speed. Neither the Adheenam or any other person belonging to the Mutt have lodged any complaint with the police regarding the accident so far.

“Strict action will be taken against those who forward fake news and rumours regarding the accident,” the police warned.
