Man gets three years of RI for assaulting minor girl at Sabarimala


A Fast-Track Special Court in Pathanamathitta on Wednesday sentenced a 63-year-old man to three years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl at Sabarimala.

Pronouncing the quantum of sentence, Judge Doni Thomas Varghese also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convict, identified as 63-year-old Subrahmanyan of Malappuram.

The incident occurred during the annual pilgrimage season at Sabarimala in December 2023.The crime took place at 3 a.m. on December 22, 2023 at Nadapandal when the convict forcibly seated the victim on his lap and assaulted her while her father was away for a while to use the restroom.

The victim’s parents filed a complaint at the Kulathur police station in Malappuram, which was later transferred to the Pampa police station. Public prosecutor Roshan Thomas represented the prosecution.
