He had participated in a protest against Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, expelled BJP MLA, in Vijayapura. The latter challenged the Minister to resign from the Assembly and contest against him (Basanagouda Patil Yatnal). The verbal duel triggered the resignation of the Minister from the membership of the Assembly.

In his letter, the Minister requested the Speaker to accept his resignation only if Basanagouda Patil Yatnal also submits his resignation from the membership of the Assembly. Mr. Yatnal represents Vijayapura (Bijapur) City constituency.

Mr. Yatnal had claimed that Mr. Patil cannot win an election without the support of Muslim votes, and called him an ‘agent of Pakistan’.

Mr. Patil said his resignation has nothing to do with the Congress party and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
