Minor girl falls into water pit and dies in Tirupati district

A minor girl died after falling into a water pit at Lakshmipuram village of Varadaiahpalem mandal of Tirupati district on Friday. The pit was dug under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(MGNREGA).

Born to daily wage earners, the girl (16) was studying her first-year vocational course at a private college in Gudur. When she came home for the holidays, she went around to clean the buffaloes in the nearby fields on Thursday evening, when she slipped into the pit. She raised an alarm as she could not swim, but eventually drowned.

As part of their frantic search for their daughter, the parents found her body in the pit on Friday morning. Satyavedu MLA Koneti Adimulam visited the bereaved family and promised all support from the government.
