Monsoon Update: Heavy rain alerts in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other states


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Karnataka including Bengaluru, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of west central & North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Mizoram, entire Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, some parts of Assam and Meghalaya, today May 26, 2025.

Through a social media post on X, IMD informed, “Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of west central & some more parts of North Bay of Bengal and remaining parts  Northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 3 days.”

State-wise monsoon update

Monsoon arrives early in Kerala
The MeT department said that this time monsoon reached early in Kerala since 2009. The monsoon hit Kerala on Saturday, May 24. Heavy rains continue in various parts of the city. The weather office has issued orange alert in nine districts on May 24, seven on May 25,and four on May 26, and six on May 27.

“Heavy to heavy rain likely to continue over west coast (Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa) during the next seven days with possibility of extremely heavy rainfall over Kerala during 24th-26th,” said IMD.

Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, monsoon arrived on Sunday, May 25. This is the earliest in 35 years. Mumbai and other parts of the state soon to receive heavy rainfall. 

Madhya Pradesh
In MP, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach in the first week of June, according to IMD. 

Uttar Pradesh
The monsoon in UP reached 15 days before the expected time. On Sunday, May 25, many areas of the state received heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The weather department has given warnings of rain and thunderstorms in all the districts of UP. These include Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Balrampur, Gonda, Bahraich and Basti.

Rains in Delhi
On May 25, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit Delhi in the early hours of Sunday, disrupting the common life of the national capital. Several streets were waterlogged, leading to traffic.

Following heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in the national capital, 49 flights, including 17 international flights, were diverted between 11:30 PM and 4 AM.

Four-day rain forecast for Telangana 
Ahead of the arrival of the Southwest monsoon in Telangana, IMD has forecast rain in many parts of the state over the next four days.

Light to moderate rain or thunder showers are very likely to occur at many places over Telangana, the IMD said.

It has issued a yellow alert for many districts till May 29. Heavy rains are likely at isolated places in the districts of the north Telangana region.
