Belagavi-based Pyaas Foundation handed over a 150-year-old well in Teachers Colony to the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) on April 29.
The Khasbag Mattikop well is believed to be a historic one. The British-era structure supplied drinking water to Tilakwadi, Shahapur, and Khasbag. However, over the years, it had fallen into disuse due to neglect.
The Pyaas Foundation revived the well with CSR support from AKP Ferrocasts, and Bemco Hydraulics.
It has a depth of nearly 30 feet and can supply up to 1,000 tankers of water per day. The NGO has taken up plantation around the site.
The NGO handed over the revived water body to Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan in the presence of BCC Commissioner Shubha B..
Mr. Roshan assured cooperation to all the work of the foundation.
Ram Bhandare and Parag Bhandare of AKP Ferrocasts and Anuruddha Mohata of Bemco Hydraulics were felicitated for their support.
Madhav Prabhu, president of Pyaas Foundation, outlined the mission of the NGO.
