NSE, BSE Top gainers & Losers today May 21, 2025: Sensex, Nifty 50 trade positive, BEL, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel lead gains, IndusInd & RVNL in red ahead of Q4 results, Dixon slumps


Equity benchmark indices traded in positive territory amid global cues. Sensex traded 269.58 points or 0.33 per cent positive at  81,456.02 as at 12.48 pm (however, down from the day’s high of 82,021.64), and Nifty 50 rose 88.90 points or 0.36 per cent to 24,772.80.

Moody’s Ratings emphasised that India is well-positioned to deal with the negative effects of US tariffs and global trade disruptions, as domestic growth drivers and low dependence on exports anchor the economy.

Both midcap and smallcap indexes traded with marginal gains. The volatility index rose 1.76 per cent to 17.69.

On the sectoral front, realty and pharma stocks gained over 1 per cent. Banking stocks, FMCG, auto and metal sectors traded in positive territory, while consumer durables, private bank and oil & gas slipped to negative.

A total of 2,762 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange, of which 1,489 advanced and 1,171 declined. Nearly 57 stocks hit the upper circuit and 51 hit the lower circuit.

46 stocks, including BEL and City Union Bank, hit a 52-week high.

Top gainers & losers today

Shares of Bharat Electronics, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel and Tech Mahindra led the gainers among Nifty 50 components, while IndusInd, Kotak Mahindra, JSW Steel, Coal India and Shriram Finance traded in negative territory.

BEL shares surged 3.23 per cent to ₹375.55 on the NSE, after hitting a 52-week high of ₹379.90, following brokerages’ bullishness on the stock.

Cipla followed with a 2.27 per cent gain on the NSE at ₹1,487.40, and Sun Pharma rose 2 per cent to ₹1,742.

Tata Steel followed with a 1.52 per cent increase to ₹161.10, and Tech Mahindra shares rose 1.21 per cent to ₹1,595.10.

On the flip side, IndusInd shares declined 2.02 per cent to ₹766.45 ahead of Q4 results.

Kotak Mahindra shares dipped 0.96 per cent to ₹2,070. In addition, JSW Steel, Coal India and Shriram Finance shares slipped to trade in negative territory.

Among smallcaps, Tata Teleservices, Go Digit General Insurance, Data Patterns and GRSE soared 4-5 per cent, while Solar Industries, Motilal, Policy Bazaar, BDL and IRB gained 3-4 per cent among the midcaps.

On the BSE, shares of JK Tyre, Gabriel, Caplin Point, Gland Pharma traded with 6-9 per cent gains. Meanwhile, Fineotex Chemical tumbled 10 per cent.

Shares of Dixon slumped over 6 per cent despite strong Q4 results. Hindalco, Torrent Pharma, NHPC, MobiKwik shares also reacted to Q4 numbers. IndusInd, ONGC, VA Tech Wabag, IndiGo, Mankind Pharma, Colgate Palmolive, NTPC Green Energy, RVNL and more will announce their Q4 results today. Track live updates
