Shares of Eternal Energy Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL), Asian Paints Ltd., ITC Ltd., and Nestlé India Ltd. were among the top gainers on Friday, while major IT and telecom stocks weighed on the indices. Bharti Airtel Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd., State Bank of India, Infosys Ltd., and Tech Mahindra Ltd. emerged as the top losers.
The BSE Sensex declined 200.15 points or 0.24 per cent to close at 82,330.59, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 42.30 points or 0.17 per cent to settle at 25,019.80. The session remained range-bound following Thursday’s sharp rally, with profit booking seen in heavyweight counters, particularly from the technology space.
Top Gainers
Eternal Energy led the gainers, rising 1.38 per cent to ₹245.75.
Hindustan Unilever added 1.10 per cent to end at ₹2,381.00, supported by sustained interest in FMCG names.
Asian Paints gained 0.98 per cent to ₹2,353.15, while ITC edged higher by 0.73 per cent to ₹435.60.
Nestlé India closed 0.52 per cent higher at ₹2,410.55.
Top Losers
Bharti Airtel was the day’s worst performer, falling 2.81 per cent to ₹1,814.35.
HCL Technologies dropped 2.14 per cent to ₹1,659.75, followed by SBI which slipped 1.96 per cent to ₹791.85.
Infosys shed 1.46 per cent to ₹1,589.75, while Tech Mahindra declined 0.79 per cent to ₹1,615.15.
Despite the subdued performance of benchmark indices, broader markets held firm. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.94 per cent to 57,060.50, while the Nifty Next 50 jumped 1.29 per cent to 67,078.95. Market breadth on the BSE remained positive, with 2,607 stocks advancing and 1,380 declining. A total of 83 stocks hit 52-week highs during the day.
