Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and service chiefs, General Anil Chauhan, along with Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today on Wednesday, May 13, 2025 to brief her about the Operation Sindoor carried out by the officers of the Indian Armed Forces.
The President commended the valour and the dedication of the Armed Forces that made India’s response to terrorism a sterling success”, Rashtrapati Bhavan posted on ‘X’.

The CDS and service chiefs met President Murmu a day after briefing veterans and think tanks about Operation Sindoor. The operation involved India launching strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in the morning hours on May 7, 2025.
The President was given a comprehensive account of these developments during the briefing.
A day earlier, CDS General Anil Chauhan had also met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at his residence in New Delhi.
Earlier, the Indian Armed Forces’ senior leadership, including CDS Anil Chauhan, General Dwivedi, Admiral Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Singh, met with retired military personnel and strategic think tanks in New Delhi. They shared key insights from Operation Sindoor, discussing its operational success, strategic significance, and the military’s joint capabilities.
The strikes were conducted in response to the Pahalgam terror attack; however, in a quick response, the Indian government suspended the Indus Water Treaty signed in the year 1960 between both countries following the CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) meeting a day after the attack.
During this period, the Indian Air Force also targeted multiple military sites in Pakistan until a ceasefire was declared on May 10. The CDS and service chiefs then briefed President Murmu on the operation’s details.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on May 12. PM Modi said that after the surgical strike in 2016 and the air strike in 2019, Operation Sindoor is India’s policy against terrorism.
The Prime Minister stated that any talks with Pakistan would focus solely on two key issues: combating terrorism and vacating Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is under illegal occupation. He added that Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, has set a new benchmark in India’s fight against terrorism, establishing a new standard and normal in the process.
The Prime Minister further referred to India putting in abeyance the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and said water and blood cannot flow together”.
