Original parent document was necessary for registration of property documents, as there have been incidents of attempts to misuse with fake photocopies, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy contended in the Assembly on Wednesday.
The Minister was reponding to AIADMK’s S. Sundararajan (Sankari), who highlighted the challenges being faced by property owners while registering properties without original parent document. The AIADMK legislator also referred to a court judgment in this regard.
In his reply, the Minister said that if the original parent document was lost, the non-traceable certificate from the police was to be obtained. He pointed to attempts of misuse with fake photocopies for original parent document and further insisted on producing original parent document for registering properties.
During his reply to the debate on the demand for grants for Commercial Taxes and Registration Department for 2025-26, the Minister said a revenue of ₹21,968.24 crore has been earned by registering 33,59,175 number of documents during 2024-2025.
The revenue generated over registration of documents during 2023-24, 2022-23, 2021-22 were ₹18,825.32 crore, ₹17,296.84 crore and ₹13,913.65 crore respectively.
