India-Pakistan Conflict After Pahalgam Terror Attack, IMF Executive Board Meeting Tentative Date: Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month, India is likely to oppose a proposed loan by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Pakistan, sources told Zee Business. India may also challenge potential lending by other multilateral development banks (MDB), besides the IMD, according to the sources.
The news comes as the IMF is scheduled to conduct an executive board meeting tentatively on May 9 to conduct the first revise of its extended arrangement for Pakistan under its extended fund facility. Pakistan’s requests for modification of performance criteria and for an arranagement under the resilience and sistanability facility are also on the agenda of the meeting, according to the IMF portal, imf.org.
The US-based multilateral development lender updates a tentative calendar of its executive board’s formal meetings and seminars in the next seven days on its portal.
The calendar is subject to change, with the agenda for each meeting typically finalized the day before ht emeeting, according to the IMF webste.
The IMF board is set to discuss a new potential arrangement to the tune of $1.3 billion for Pakistan under a climate resilience loan programme. Additionally, it is also due to reviews its ongoing $7 billion bailout package for that country.
