Pakistan violates LoC ceasefire in Kupwara, Uri again; Indian Army responds

Pakistan Army on Wednesday (April 30, 2025) night initiated unprovoked fire across the Line of Control (LoC) opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Indian Army responding proportionately.

“During the night of 30 April-01 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. These were responded proportionately by the Indian Army,” a statement by the Defence PRO said.

Pakistan has engaged in unprovoked firing across the LoC since Thursday after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people, mostly tourists in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan talked over a hotline on Tuesday. “India warned Pakistan against the unprovoked violations by Pakistan Army along the LoC,” official sources said.

The DGMOs meeting was held as per schedule. In 2021, the DGMOs had reiterated their commitment to abide by the 2003 ceasefire agreement along the LoC and IB in J&K. The agreement was holding well by and large till the Pahalgam attack on April 22 spurred a series of skirmishes. 

Pakistan Army posts also initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors in the Jammu region on Tuesday. The IB in the Pargwal Sector in Jammu also saw exchange of fire. “Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately,” the Army said.
