Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya have asked people to adhere to approved plans during their construction of their houses since the Corporation is very keen on planned development in the City.
He said the licensed surveyors or licensed technical persons were made responsible to oversee the construction of the houses in accordance with rules and regulations of municipal authorities. According to him, the applicants have to produce a self certificate of construction details after consulting the licensed technical persons.
They are supposed to follow the construction norms and deviation may lead to demolition of the structures. “The authorised technical persons need to visit the site and observe the construction in progress. They should not allow construction of additional floors and violation of setbacks. We want to appoint more technical persons. The Corporation invited applications from youngsters with architecture background,” said Mr. Nallanayya while speaking to The Hindu.
According to him, the Corporation is also keen on assessment of newly constructed houses and collection of arrears of property tax from existing property owners. The corporation could collect around ₹5.29 crore Rupees in the month of April, 2024 but it had gone up to ₹9.75 crore in April, 2025 with the special campaign taken by the civic body with regard to five percent discount on payment of property tax for the year 2025-2026.
It is also insisting government offices to clear their property tax dues which were piled up for many years. The Corporation has to collect around ₹46.9 crore Rupees from government offices, private commercial complexes and others. It has strengthened the legal wing to get back the property tax with arrears by winning the court cases filed against the assesses who failed clear dues in spite of repeated notices. The Corporation is also keen to collect vacant land tax from the property owners.
