Powers of Waqf Board were unconstitutional: V. Muraleedharan

Former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan has said that the Union government passed the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Parliament as the Waqf Board’s power to claim rights over anyone’s land was neither democratic nor in line with the judicial system. He was inaugurating the Waqf Act Amendment public awareness campaign organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kollam West district committee at the Press Club on Sunday. “Numerous ordinary people are suffering and being denied justice due to this law. The hardships faced by the people of Munambam stand before us as an example. Justice will be served to those suffering in the name of the Waqf Board and the rights of the people of Munambam will be restored,” he said. BJP Kollam West district president S. Prasanth presided while State spokesperson Narayanan Namboothiri presented the subject. Former district president B.B. Gopakumar and national council member M.S. Shyamkumar spoke.
