Prakasam district has ranked first in the livestock sector and fifth in milk production in Andhra Pradesh according to a Vision Document prepared by the district administration as part of the Swarna Andhra@2047 programme, Collector A. Thameem Ansaria said during World Veterinary Day celebrations at NTR Kalakshetram in Ongole on Saturday.

She said, “Prakasam is a backward district having 17,525 families living in poverty, and a majority of them depend on the dairy industry for their livelihood. The State government has made plans to develop the poor people in the district under Zero Poverty-P4 (Public, Private, People Partnership) policy.”

The Collector said that Animal Husbandry Department officials should do their best to keep the district at the top in the dairy sector of the State. She presented mementos to the winners of the sports competitions organised for the department staff. She lauded the medical services provided by veterinary doctors and called them as life-savers of mute animals. The veterinarians also played a key role in the prevention of zoonotic diseases transmitted from livestock, she added.

She called upon people to do their bit to quench the thirst of animals this summer season.
