Kerala has received 36% excess summer rain, bringing respite from the intense summer heat. The isolated spells at regular intervals are also keeping the daytime maximum temperature within limits in many parts of the State. The State has so far received 185.9 mm of rain against the average of 136.3 mm during the period from March 1 to April 29. The extended range forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department also predicts cumulatively above-normal rainfall over Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep in the first week of May.
