Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was very delighted to see “unanimous support” for Operation Sindoor at the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on Saturday. But, at the same time, heurged the Centre and the States to have the “same approach” that brought military successagainst Pakistan for making the country a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Modi also stated that India is at the cusp of taking off to become a Viksit Bharat and for that States and Union Territories will have to work as ‘Team India’ and remove policy bottlenecks to draw investments and generate employment. The theme of the Governing Council meeting was ‘Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047’.
The PM more than once mentioned the successful Operation Sindoor to offer a prescription for achieving the Viksit Bharat. He said the country will have to have “ek lakshya” (one goal) and must be “ekajut’ (united) like the armed forces were during Operation Sindoor.
“…The strength of Team India as shown in Operation Sindoor is going to be the same feature which will enable India become Viksit Bharat,” NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said in a press briefing after the meeting.
Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, and full-time members Rajiv Gaba, VK Saraswat, Ramesh Chand, VK Paul, and Arvind Virmani shared the dais with Subrahmanyam at the press briefing.
According to Subrahmanyam, the PM too was of the view that Operation Sindoor was “not just a show of army’s strength, it has to be converted into social strength because society came out and supported our action.” Similarly, Viksit Bharat “is not the idea of a Chief Minister or an individual or any particular system, it has to be converted into a people’s movement,” he quoted Modi as telling Chief Ministers, Lt Governors and other stakeholders.
Subrahmanyam said as many as 31 of 36 States and UTs attended the once-in-year meeting but for Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar and Puducherry.
States’ demands
Some opposition ruled States such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh raised the issue of not getting their rightful financial due. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann accused the Centre of giving “step-motherly” treatment to his State on the water issue. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the special needs of hill States should be taken into account and demanded that the pending funds of the State be released.
