A chain-snatching attempt by a man at a dairy shop in Tamil Nadu’s Kancheepuram was foiled by bystanders who quickly intervened and chased him down on Saturday evening. The woman, whose chain was targeted, sustained neck injuries during the incident.
The incident took place at a dairy shop owned by the woman’s husband. While he was out on his delivery rounds, his wife, Porkodi, was managing the shop on her own.
While Porkodi was alone, the accused entered the shop, pretending to be a customer. As she attended to him, he suddenly yanked the chain from her neck and fled.
The forceful snatching caused injuries to Porkodi’s neck, and she cried out in pain as she bled.
Her screams attracted the attention of nearby residents and shopkeepers, who swiftly gave chase and apprehended the accused.
Enraged by the attempted robbery and the woman’s injuries, the crowd beat the accused before the police arrived.
Both Porkodi and the accused were transported to the District Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
