Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy described Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s address at the party public meeting as a combination of frustration and deception, trying to hoodwink people of Telangana about the BRS’s ten-year ‘loot’ of the newly formed State.

After pushing Telangana into a deep debt, KCR was trying to blame the Congress now, said Mr. Reddy while speaking to reporters in Hyderabad on Monday (April 28, 2025). He said Mr. Rao’s address lacked clarity and used the platform to show his frustration over loss of power.

“KCR lost his heart the day I became the Chief Minister,” he said, indicating that the former Chief Minister was yet to digest the reality. His only intention now is to blame Congress for all the ills he (KCR) created during the last 10 years. In response Mr. Rao’s claim that the government was unable to handle the ‘kids’ (referring to K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao) in the Assembly, Mr. Reddy asked why was he sending the kids when he could attend the Assembly as the Leader of the Opposition.

The Chief Minister also dismissed KCR’s claim that the government created obstacles to the BRS meeting, stating that the RTC buses were provided for the meeting and the Corporation also made some profits. “When the BRS was in power, KCR did not even allow the Congress to hire RTC buses to Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Khammam,” he said. “Unlike them, we don’t believe that a public meeting can be stopped when buses are not provided.”

The Chief Minister said the government had launched several welfare schemes in the last 17 months as promised, and now the effort was on streamlining them. No other State government has launched the welfare schemes that the Telangana government was implementing. “I don’t believe in launching and closing schemes like the previous Government.”

No revenge politics

Ruling out revenge politics, Mr. Reddy said he wouldn’t take the path used by KCR, in an indirect reference to the investigation launched into Phone Tapping, Kaleshwaram project construction or Formula-E race. “The investigation will be conducted in accordance with law and so will be the consequences. I don’t want to arrest people like KCR did during his time.”

Dismisses gap with Rahul

Mr. Reddy also dismissed having any ‘gaps’ with Rahul Gandhi and said he doesn’t need to prove his close relationship with anyone. On the transfer of IAS officials, he said transfers were an administrative issue and the government would do so as and when required.

The Chief Minister also sent a veiled warning to the MLAs stating that they need to be in their constituencies rather than in Hyderabad. He said in politics, patience was necessary, and those who sailed with him would get opportunities like Addanki Dayakar.
