The heatwave’s grip over Telangana has intensified, pushing mercury levels into the red zone in several parts of the State. On Wednesday (April 23, 2025), four districts recorded maximum temperatures above 45°C, with Nandipet in Nizamabad emerging as the hottest at a scorching 45.3°C, according to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS).

Close on its heels were Tamsi in Adilabad and Kubeer in Nirmal, both touching 45.2°C, followed by Bheemini in Mancherial at 45°C. Several other locations also experienced near-extreme heat, including Endapalli (Jagtial) and Tiryani (Kumuram Bheem Asifabad) at 44.9°C; Maldakal (Jogulamba Gadwal), Madnur (Kamareddy), and Thripuraram (Nalgonda) at 44.8°C; Thimmapur (Karimnagar) at 44.7°C; Sultanabad (Peddapalli) at 44.5°C and Papannapet (Medak) at 44.3°C.

The remaining 22 districts in the State saw maximum temperatures ranging between 42°C and 44°C. Urban pockets weren’t spared either: Balanagar in Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded 42.1°C, while Nampally in Hyderabad touched 42°C.

Heatwave alert

Amidst the rising mercury, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave and warm night alert for multiple districts for Friday (April 25, 2025). Heatwave conditions, accompanied by unusually warm nights, were expected in isolated pockets of Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Medak, and Kamareddy.

Meanwhile, warm night conditions alone are likely to prevail across a wide swathe of the State, including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.

Thunderstorm on Friday

In a slight relief, the IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy districts on Friday.
