Three children, including two siblings, drowned in a pond in Peddakothapally mandal of Nagarkurnool district on Thursday (May 2, 2025) evening. The deceased were identified as 13-year-old A. Ganesh, his 10-year-old sister A. Rakshita, and their friend 10-year-oldB. Varun.
According to the police, six children had gone to the village pond between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to play and swim. “Three of them entered the water and drowned, as they did not know how to swim,” an officer said. The others ran to alert cattle herders who were grazing sheep in a field close to the pond. The herders rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the children.
Police added that the children had not informed their families before going to the pond. Their bodies were recovered around 6 p.m. and sent for postmortem examination in Nagarkurnool Government Hospital. A case was booked and investigation is underway.
