Three persons, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed and three others injured when a KSRTC bus crashed into their autorickshaw near Mallara Banaswadi in Nelamangala on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Srinivasa, 40, autorickshaw driver; Puttamma, 55, passenger, and her granddaughter Varshitha.
The injured Ratnamma, daughter of Puttamma; her daughter Lekhana, 11, and Puttamma’s son Venkatesha, 37, were admitted to the hospital.
The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. when Srinivasa picked up the passengers and headed to a neighbouring area to drop them. The family had gone to a function and was returning home.
The autorickshaw was trying to pass through the interjection on the main road when the KSRTC bus headed to Horanadu crashed into the vehicle.
There was a rumble strip on either side of the interjection to slow down the vehicles, but the driver was speeding which led to the accident, the police said.
Passers-by rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to the hospital.
The Nelamangala traffic police reached the spot and brought in a crane to move the damaged vehicles. There were nearly 60 passengers in the bus and they escaped unhurt. Traffic was disrupted for some time .
The police booked the driver for death due to negligence and arrested him and seized the bus for further investigation.
