Two students who ventured into the Meenachil river to bath went missing in heavy currents near Bharananganam on Saturday evening. The missing persons were identified as Albin Joseph, 21, a native of Thekkemala near Mundakayam, and Amal K Joseph, 19, of Karungulam near Adimali.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 4.30 p.m. at Vilangupara near Bharananganam. The students, who had been attending German language training at a private institute in Bharananganam, were bathing at a ghat near the Vilangupara bridge. However, two of them were swept away by the strong currents. The third student managed to alert local residents about the situation. Despite efforts by the local people to search for the missing students, they could not be found till late in the evening.
