Two women police personnel, including an Inspector of Police, have been suspended for allegedly taking bribe in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Vriddhachalam in Cuddalore district.

According to the police, the Vriddhachalam All Women Police had detained three youth for inquiry in connection with a sexual assault of a minor girl recently. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the trio were not involved in the incident.

Though the trio were let off, the Vriddhachalam All Women Police Station Inspector Jayalakshmi and Head Constable Sivasakthi demanded and accepted bribe from the parent of one of the detained youths.

An inquiry by a police team revealed that the duo allegedly took money from petitioners regularly while registering cases. Based on the recommendations of Cuddalore Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Villupuram Range) Disha Mittal ordered their suspension with immediate effect.
