Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announces Rs 1.12 lakh-crore investment proposals for 8 Northeastern states


Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday that collective efforts had generated more than 732 investment proposals for the eight northeastern states: Sikkim, Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The proposals were valued at more than Rs 1.12 lakh crore. The minister also said that six of the states now have operational investment promotion agencies (IPAs) while two more are on the way, while most states have strong logistics policies under an 11-point readiness framework. 

Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025

The minister unveiled the 2025 edition of the Rising Northeast Investors Summit, an investment outreach programme for the Northeast, to be held on in New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on May 23 and 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the two-day event, which is set to see participation from various ministries, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, global investors, foreign missions, development partners, corporates and and startups, according to an official statement. 

The special event will have a host of sessions covering areas such as agriculture, AI, textiles tourism, education, and entrepreneurship.

Describing the coming event as a turning point in India’s journey, Scindia said the two-day conclave is “a declaration of confidence” and “a roadmap for progress”.

Here’s a summary of key sessions at the event: 

  • Inaugural Session (May 23): PM Modi will address the session; senior dignitaries will be in attendance 
  • Ministerial Plenaries: Areas that will be covered include textiles, green energy, digital infrastructure, logistics, tourism, education, health, agri-value chains, trade, entertainment and sports
  • Interactive Business Sessions: More than 100 B2G and B2B meetings connecting investors directly with state representatives
  • Valedictory Session (May 24): Home Minister will chair the session
