Ventilators worth ₹1.60 crore donated to Guntur Government hospital in Andhra Pradesh

In a significant boost to health-care infrastructure, ventilators worth ₹1.60 crore were donated to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur under the auspices of the Indian Red Cross Society, on Saturday (May 3, 2025). Additionally, the 80th batch alumni of Guntur Medical College (GMC) contributed a cheque for ₹29 lakh and facilitated the inauguration of a step-down ICU valued at ₹22 lakh.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar graced the occasion as the chief guest, joined by local MLA Mohammed Naseer Ahmed and Guntur Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindra Babu (Nani).

The event, held within the GGH premises, saw the unveiling of the official GGH logo by Dr. Pemmasani, along with donor Bhashyam Ramakrishna and other dignitaries. The Minister expressed gratitude to all philanthropists who contributed equipment such as ventilators, air conditioners and ICU beds, including four neonatal and six mobile ventilators valued at around ₹2 crore.

Dr. Pemmasani commended the donors for their trust in the institution and highlighted key developments made possible through their support — such as the construction of the service block by Thulasi Ramachandra Prabhu, repair and reinstatement of elevators, and establishment of eye clinics.

“The Red Cross is a globally respected institution with a legacy of selfless service spanning centuries,” he noted. “Unlike other organisations that fade after their founders step aside, the Red Cross continues to thrive owing to its unwavering commitment to public service.”
