Vi to consider funding proposals at May 30 board meet


Vodafone Idea (Vi) said it will consider and evaluate any and all proposals for raising of funds in one or more tranches at its board meet on May 30, as per a stock exchange filing.

This is yet another attempt by the company to resolve its total debt of ₹1.7 lakh crore, of which it has to pay ₹83,000 crore in AGR dues.

The company said its board of directors will hold a meeting on Friday to talk about funding either by way of a rights issue or further public offer or private placement. This includes preferential allotment or qualified institutions placement by way of issue of equity shares or any other eligible instruments or securities, including securities convertible into equity shares, Global Depository Receipts, American Depository Receipts or bonds including foreign currency convertible bonds, convertible debentures, warrants, and/or non-convertible debentures including non-convertible debentures along with warrants, which may or may not be listed.

Multiple analysts businessline spoke to have also highlighted the need for Vi to remain as a competitive body in the sector, particularly to avoid a duopoly of the telecom vertical. However, in order to apply for a funding, brokerage firms like Ambit Insights said the telco may require a waiver or deferral of AGR dues from the government.
