Vizhinjam port a testament to Oommen Chandy’s vision, says MLA Sunny Joseph

Congress MLA Sunny Joseph on Friday (May 2) said the Vizhinjam port project stands as a testament to the unwavering vision and commitment of the late Oommen Chandy, calling him the true “development hero” behind its realisation.

Speaking at a public meeting held at Gandhi Square near the Collectorate after a Congress-led demonstration, Mr. Joseph asserted that, regardless of what others now claim, the people of Kerala recognise Vizhinjam as the result of Oommen Chandy’s steadfast efforts. “The truth is, Oommen Chandy was a handful of nautical miles ahead of the national development vision — a fact engraved in the public conscience of the country,” he said.

He criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for going ahead with the same Vizhinjam contract they had once labelled a ₹6,000-crore corruption scandal. “Those who had levelled serious corruption charges are now implementing the same project without changing a single clause. Not a speck of corruption has been proven,” he added, accusing the ruling front of discarding political ethics.

The event was organised by the Kannur District Congress Committee in tribute to Oommen Chandy’s contributions. The march to the Collectorate began from the DCC office and was led by DCC president Martin George, accompanied by Prof. A.D. Mustafa, V.A. Narayanan, T.O. Mohanan, Rajeevan Elayavoor, and other leaders.
