Government proposes 8 acre land for Police housing in Amaravati: Minister for Home

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to request the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to allocate eight acres of land in Amaravati’s Thullur region for constructing police accommodation, Minister for Home Vangalapudi Anitha said on Saturday (April 19). The move is part of the coalition government’s broader efforts to enhance infrastructure and safety in the capital region.

Speaking after a review meeting with Superintendents of Police and senior officers from Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Nellore districts, the Minister emphasized that the safety of women, children, and the public remains the top priority. Given the presence of the High Court, Secretariat, and party offices in Amaravati, she said security arrangements will be strengthened significantly, adding that additional police personnel would be required in Guntur district.

Highlighting key achievements, she said no cybercrime incidents were reported in Prakasam district in the last three months, and several cases were cracked in Guntur and Bapatla. Cyber awareness campaigns are being intensified across all districts, and efforts are on to sensitize every household through women police.

The Minister announced plans to modernize police stations and ensure better facilities for on-duty officers. She revealed that 10 new police stations will be established across the State to address rising population and law enforcement demands. Each district will also have a dedicated cybercrime police station.

To boost surveillance, the government aims to install 5,000–10,000 CCTV cameras per district and has urged residents to support this by installing cameras at homes, shops, and schools. The Minister also acknowledged the revival of key policing technologies such as CCTV networks and body-worn cameras, which were damaged in the previous administration.

She confirmed that recruitment for 6,000 constable posts is underway and that steps are being taken to resolve pending promotion and court cases, including for the 1995 batch CIs. The government, she asserted, is committed to swift justice, women’s safety, and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
